Can the deportation or residence permit cancellation be appealed?
Significant changes to Finnish immigration law entered into force on 6 May 2025. The reforms clarify what constitutes lawful and unlawful residence in Finland and affect both residence permit and asylum procedures.
Key points:
-
A negative residence permit decision usually includes a removal order (refusal of entry or deportation).
-
Under the new rules, a new residence permit application must generally be submitted from abroad.
-
A subsequent asylum application does not automatically make residence in Finland lawful; each case is assessed individually.
-
Appeal rights remain: negative decisions can be challenged before an administrative court.
- You have the right to consult a lawyer
